Lowy keeps mum on son's FFA succession

Football Federation Australia Chairman Frank Lowy has come as close as he can to endorsing his son as his successor when he steps down from the post in November.

Lowy's youngest son Steven is one of several candidates currently under discussion to fill three vacancies on the FFA board and is the overwhelming favourite to become chairman.

Lowy and two of his other directors, deputy chairman Brian Schwartz and director Phillip Wolanski, will stand down in six months.

Lowy has been careful never to show any favouritism to his son Steven, who is one of the managing directors of Westfield, and would not be drawn on the topic on Tuesday.

"I'm not entering a discussion about my son. I'm not his manager," Lowy said. "It will be the decision of the state federations, the 10 people that sit there and make the decision."

But asked if he had taught his son well he said: "He's not a bad guy you know."

On Tuesday the FFA unveiled their 'Whole of Football Plan', a 20-year blueprint for the sport.
Having been the main driving force in the sport's progress over the last decade, Lowy said he was confident his successor would take the vision forward.

"I think there are people that want to do the job and I think they will find the right people for the right positions," he said.

"It's a challenge to make the decision who it will be and it will be a challenge for the people who will be elected.

"It was no play to get to where we are today but different work is needed in the next ten years than in the last 10 years.

"We were nowhere and now we are somewhere and we want to be be further than where we are now and I think there is enough talent in Australia's business field who can do this job well."
