A who's who on shortlist for PFA A-League Team of the Decade

Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) will name its A-League Team of the Decade on Monday with 34 players on the shortlist - including Johnny Warren Medal winners Thomas Broich, Marcos Flores, Carlos Hernandez, Shane Smeltz and Joel Griffiths.

The nominated players polled the highest votes among A-League players past and present and includes the likes of marquee man Alessandro Del Piero and Shinji Ono.

The shortlisted goalkeepers are:

The shortlisted defenders are:

:: Tarek Elrich
:: Jade North

The shortlisted midfielders are:

PFA President Matt McKay, who is aming the nominees, hailed the impact of the shortlisted players and said all were worthy of selection in the team.

“Every single one of these players has made an enourmous impact on the A-League,” McKay said.

“For their clubs they have been immense and have been instrumental in Championship and Premiership triumphs and have also starred in some of the league’s most memorable moments over the past 10 seasons.

“I would like to wish each and everyone one of them the very best and congratulate them on receiving this huge show of respect from their peers, something which means so much to each and every player.”

Western Sydney Wanderers goalkeeper Ante Covic, the PFA Vice President, said the shortlisted players highlighted the quality of players that have called the A-League home.

“Throughout the past 10 seasons of the competition we have been fortunate to have had some truly world class players plying their trade in Australia,” Covic said.

“Amongst the list we have players that have played and excelled at the very highest levels of the game and their contribution to the A-League has been immense.”
