Roar to rest big guns against Jets

Brisbane Roar is set to field another second-string team on Friday night after defender Jack Hingert declared the club's rotation policy was the reason behind its midweek AFC Champions League success.

The Roar was 1-0 winner over Beijing Guoan in China on Wednesday night, keeping it firmly in the hunt to progress to the next stage of the tournament.

Coach Frans Thijssen was able to name his best possible side after resting almost all his first-choice players and naming a team laden with rookies for last Saturday's A-League meeting with Melbourne Victory at Suncorp Stadium.

Hingert, who was Brisbane's best in a stoic defensive performance by the team at Beijing's Workers Stadium, expects Thijssen to do the same when the Roar faces the Jets in its last regular season game before the finals.

"We're not 100 per cent sure yet but there's definitely a good chance we might do that again," Hingert said.

"Especially with the game being Friday - we get back Thursday and playing the next game will be tough for most of the boys.

"Quite a few of us needed a little break to recover and be as close to 100 per cent as possible for this game.

"Obviously it showed. It worked well for us. We came away with a win and that's the reason we did it.

"And the young boys did a great job for us against Melbourne Victory, so it was kind of a win-win situation."

After taking on potential wooden spooner Newcastle on Friday, the Roar will have at least a week off before an away elimination final against either Sydney, Wellington or Adelaide next weekend.

But it is back in AFC Champions League action on the Gold Coast the following Tuesday in a must-win clash against Urawa Red Diamonds.

Hingert said the team was "buzzing" after keeping its Asian hopes alive with what was only Brisbane's second victory on the continental stage.

The 24-year-old is also privately thrilled with his showing, hoping he has done enough to show Thijssen he belongs in the Roar's first team.

Hingert fell out of favour with former boss Mike Mulvey at the start of the season and has grappled with injury throughout this campaign, but appears to be building up a head of steam at the right time.

"It's been a tough season for me," said Hingert, who is contracted to Brisbane for one more year. Now I'm back fully fit and this is the best I've felt for a long time.

"I've got a good chance to prove myself, show I deserve to be playing every week and make that spot mine regardless if it's ACL, A-League or the finals."
