Nineteen year-old Calver has enjoyed an extended run in Graham Arnold’s squad this season, while 18 year-old Blackwood made his A-League debut in round one
Calver, who has 17 A-League appearances since making his Sky Blues debut as a 16 year-old in 2012, was delighted to have committed to the club for the next two years.
“I’m really glad to be signing on,” he said.
“It’s very good and I’m excited for the next year to come especially after how the boys have gone this year.
“It feels great that Arnie has shown this faith in me and that he’s able to trust me and use me wherever he needs. I just want to play regularly now and impress as much as I can.”
Blackwood has played a key role in the front line of Sydney FC’s National Youth League squad, clinching the golden boot with 10 goals.
The APIA Leichhardt product has set his sights on progressing as a footballer under Arnold with the renewal of his contract.
“It’s great to be here for the next two years,” he said.
“I think it’s the perfect place for me, great coaches and great people to be around here so I’m really excited.
“It means a lot, and helps your confidence as a player when you’re out on the pitch knowing the coaching staff have that faith in you.
"I just want to get as much game time with the first team and just keep working hard for the team and doing what I can with the team to become better.”
Arnold praised the young duo and hopes the two can prosper further in the following seasons.
“Aaron and George have impressed me immensely this season and I believe the pair are both very deserving of these new deals,” he said.
“I’ve always enjoyed developing youth players, I’d rather develop what we have here than go out and buy a new player where possible.
“It’s our ambition to have the best youth set up and academy in Australia and by bringing in local based players like Aaron and George we are fulfilling their aspirations and hope to do the same with many young Sydney footballers in the future.”
