As promised, Berisha's celebration against his former club was understated - but there was no denying what the goal meant for the striker and for the small contingent of travelling Victory fans nearby, who were sent into raptures.
Another ex-Brisbane player, Kosta Barbarouses, had the chance to make it 3-0 just minutes after the halftime break but the Kiwi's attempt thudded into the left upright.
The home side, which suffered a pre-match blow when ace youngster Brandon Borrello injured his knee in the warm-up, enjoyed plenty of possession but was unable to make anything of it until Matt McKay's goal in the 51st minute sparked them into action.
