Andreas Govas nets NPL goal worthy of global praise

If Heidelberg United beating Green Gully in the National Premier League last weekend wasn’t remarkable enough for its 8-2 scoreline, one goal in particular certainly was.

Andreas Govas, , netted one of the greatest goals you’ll see this season – in any league around the world.

Check it out here.

Had Govas scored this in any top tier professional league, you’d imagine he’d be on every sports back page imaginable, and an internet sensation to boot. But how does his goal compare to some of these blinders?

Govas’s strike was reminiscent of that memorable cracker from Stoke City’s Charlie Adam not too long ago, when he beat Chelsea’s Thibault Courtois from about 60 or so metres.
Jon Parkin did something similar for Forest Green Rovers in the English Conference against Macclesfield Town.
Going better still, Stefan Ishizaki netted this "specky" on the volley for Swedish side Elfsborg against Orebro a few seasons ago.
And, of course, David Beckham became world famous for his effort at Selhurst Park during his Manchester United days, beating Wimbledon goalkeeper Neil Sullivan from the halfway line.
Adi Rocha belted one for Jiangxi Liansheng against Harbin Yiteng. It was made even more remarkable given the fact it was just his second game for the Chinese club.
And who could forget Damian Mori’s strike for Adelaide City against Sydney United in 1995 during that National Soccer League season. That ball crossed the goalline after just 3.69sec, a world record at the time for the fastest ever goal.
It doesn’t really matter how Govas’s goal rates in the grand scheme of things. We reckon it’s an absolute beauty. Take a bow, son.
