With three remaining games, Melbourne Victory and Perth Glory are on 44 points with Adelaide a point adrift in third.
Fourth-placed Wellington (42 points) and Sydney FC (41 points) also remain in the quest for the Premier's Plate.
Elrich's Adelaide is buoyed after banking consecutive away wins.
But Reds players, who host Brisbane Roar on Saturday, have urged each other to ignore the ladder in the run to the finals.
"We're just focusing on ourselves," Elrich said.
"We're not going to rely on other teams to do a job for us.
"We have got three games to go and we just touched on it then in the changerooms - we just worry about ourselves and making sure that we get the result we need.
"And whatever happens, happens."
Elrich said the Reds are wary of Brisbane, seventh and needing to win all remaining games to sneak into finals.
"They are fighting for that top six spot and you saw what they did against Central Coast, that was a massive result for them," said Elrich in reference to Roar's 6-1 Easter Thursday belting of the Mariners.
"They will be flying on confidence but we'll be wary of that.
"And last time they came they beat us 1-0 so that will be in the back of our minds as well."
