It all started when Central Coast Mariners tweeted that the club's phone lines were down. It was an opportunity fellow league struggler Western Sydney Wanderers couldn't resist, from official and unofficial accounts.
Somewhat hilariously, the Mariners then realised the problem was down to the phones not actually being plugged in.
And that’s when the official Wanderers got involved.
Not bad but that tweet was absolutely knocked out of the park by the Mariners social media gurus with this pearler.
We reckon the three points go to the Mariners in this unplanned friendly fixture - an unusual goal kicked between the two, given both their previous fixtures in the A-League on the field have ended in 0-0 draws.
The Wanderers will have a chance to score a goal of their own in revenge on Saturday 11 April when they visit Gosford for the A-League Round 25 fixture.
UPDATE: Second half kicks off
After some much needed tactical analysis, Western Sydney Wanderers hit back hard after a break with these two pearlers.
Things got still more interesting when the A-League's second-placed team, Wellington Phoenix entered the fray with this snipe for both teams.
That prompted the Wanderers into serious action, and the club delivered a hammer blow with some of the silverware collected in Asia last season at the Champions League and AFC Awards.
That might hit a raw nerve for Phoenix, which is not currently not part of the AFC fraternity.
Ouch.
