Coach Graham Arnold said the Austrian captain expressed a desire to stay beyond his current one-season - $1.4 million - deal and he plans to start negotiations with the 31-year-old "very soon".
After a relatively slow start, Janko leads the league with 12 goals this season, including eight in his last five games.
He can match the league record for scoring in consecutive games - six - if he finds the back of the net against battling Newcastle Jets on Friday night.
Not surprisingly Janko is also attracting interest from clubs in Europe.
"Marc has put out there that he's very happy to stay at Sydney FC and we'll obviously sit down with him very shortly and talk about that," Arnold said on Wednesday.
"I'd back Marc to score every week. I hope I don't get investigated for betting for saying that," he joked.
"But he's a handful, that's why I brought him out here."
First however, the side must focus all its attention on the clash with the Jets at Hunter Stadium.
Arnold said the newly re-laid pitch at Parramatta Stadium, where his side staged a dramatic 4-3 win over Western Sydney on Saturday, had taken it out of his players and hampered preparations this week.
The Sky Blues mentor was left fuming after Saturday's victory, calling the stadium a "construction site" and saying the pitch was "very poor".
"We've had a short week not just in terms of the turn around but also in terms of the damage that field did to the players," Arnold said.
"We've had to have an extra day of recovery with sore backs and calf muscles because of the field at Parramatta."
The violent incidents of Saturday's heated derby, in which non-selected defender Aaron Calver was slapped in the face by a fan and two supporters were left hospitalised, overshadowed what was a brilliant spectacle.
Arnold said he hoped the incidents wouldn't deter fans and applauded the maturity of 19-year-old Calver, who decided not to press formal charges.
"What we don't want to get to is where people will be scared to go to the derby for their own safety," he said.
"The derbies are a wonderful occasion and I think FFA are doing a great job at handling that and making sure that things are done right.
"Aaron was upset at the time of course because he was innocent.
"He was only there to watch the game because I left him out of the squad so he was already feeling down.
"But the kid is mature enough to just let it go and let FFA handle it."
