Journeyman Ward joins the Wanderers

Much-travelled Nick Ward will be Western Sydney's newest recruit, with the A-League club also adding former Australia defender Hayden Foxe to its coaching staff.

Ward, who has played at Perth Glory, Melbourne Victory, Wellington and Newcastle as well as stints at English clubs Queens Park Rangers and Brighton, has been training with the Wanderers.

The club is expected to announce his signing for the remainder of the A-League season on Saturday.

Foxe, who was the assistant coach under John Aloisi at Melbourne Heart - now Melbourne City - attended his first Wanderers training session on Friday and joins Ian Crook and Trevor Morgan as the third assistant.

With the Wanderers playing in two competitions, coach Tony Popovic was looking to bolster his coaching staff to help share the load across both their Asian Champions League and A-League campaigns.

Controversial new striker Kerem Bulut is also set to be confirmed as an injury replacement for Brendon Santalab with Japanese import Yusuke Tanaka to become the injury replacement for Shannon Cole, who broke his collarbone in the Wanderers' 3-1 win over Kashima Antlers on Wednesday.

Both players were brought in to play in the ACL but will now become part of the club's A-League squad.

The Wanderers are expecting clearance from Football Federation Australia on Friday on the duo with Bulut set to make his debut in the heated derby against Sydney FC on Saturday.

Bulut made headlines in 2010 for his conviction over gang-related crimes but Popovic is certain the 23-year-old former Sydney FC youth player will create waves for the right reason when he steps onto the pitch.

"People will certainly enjoy watching him play and I'm sure he'll become a fan favourite within in few minutes of playing," Popovic said on Friday.

"Whether that's tomorrow or next week our fans have a very good, young prospect to look forward to seeing play."

The Wanderers arrived from Japan on Friday morning with less than 24 hours to prepare before meeting a red-hot Sky Blue side at Parramatta Stadium on Saturday.

As with any heated derby Sydney coach Graham Arnold has fired a few barbs at the Wanderers calling their home in Parramatta "that small stadium" several times saying their boisterous crowds won't be a factor.

But don't expect Western Sydney mentor Popovic to take any notice.

"I haven't really got time to worry about any comments, we only just got back so I haven't had time to look or care about anything like that," he said.

With Popovic not taking the likes of goalkeeper Ante Covic, Iacopo La Rocca, Brendan Hamill, Romeo Castelen and Nikita Rukavytsya to Japan, jetlag shouldn't play a huge role on Saturday.

But the Wanderers will be missing suspended duo Matthew Spiranovic and Mateo Poljak.
