With none of the Roar’s five imports from an Asian Football Confederation nation, just three could be included in its Champions League squad.
The trio who made the cut were German playmaker Thomas Broich, Brazilian attacking weapon Henrique and Serbian striker Andrija Kaluderovic.
Brisbane's director of football Ken Stead said: “It’s unfortunate but we could only pick three players under the rules.
“That said, as a club, we are excited about this upcoming AFC Champions League campaign and look forward to the challenge of playing against some of Asia’s best teams.”
Brisbane begins its Champions League campaign on Wednesday night against Beijing Guoan at Cbus Super Stadium on the Gold Coast.
Also in the Roar’s Group G are two-time Asian champion Suwon Bluewings, from Korea Republic, and 2007 champion Urawa Red Diamonds, from Japan.
The Roar hosts Suwon Bluewings on Tuesday 17 March, and Urawa on Tuesday 5 May. Its away schedule is 4 March (Urawa), 8 April (Suwon) and 21 April (Beijing).
In 2012, Brisbane had three draws and three losses in its first tilt at the Champions League and lost to Thailand’s Buriram United in a qualifying match for the 2013 edition of the tournament.
This is the second time Roar has met Beijing Guoan in the group stage of the ACL with both the Roar’s home and away matches against the Chinese side in 2012 ending in 1-1 draws.
