Though Football Federation Australia has yet to ratify it, Wednesday 15 April is looming as the new date for the re-scheduled clash that will herald gun striker Besart Berisha’s return to Brisbane after he left the club last year.
The two sides are already slated to meet again at the same venue three days later.
If the re-arranged match is nailed down for 15 April, it will intensify an already hectic schedule for the Roar whose AFC Champions League campaign starts on Wednesday night against Chinese club Beijing Guoan at Cbus Super Stadium on the Gold Coast.
FFA acted after advice from the Queensland Government and the Queensland Police and consultation with authorities in Queensland, Brisbane Roar, Melbourne Victory and Suncorp Stadium."We have decided to postpone tonight's Brisbane Roar v Melbourne Victory match at Suncorp Stadium due to safety concerns and also out of respect for all of those in Queensland facing the potential disaster of Cyclone Marcia" said Head of the Hyundai A-League Damien de Bohun.
"FFA liaised with a broad range of stakeholders including the Queensland Government, police and emergency services and we received consistent information that we would be putting players, fans and staff at risk if we played the match.
"Residents in south east Queensland are being advised by Queensland police and emergency services to stay indoors so it is inappropriate for us to play a football match tonight in these circumstances.
"We are also mindful of taking emergency resources away from the disaster areas in south-east Queensland and feel it is the appropriate action to take in the interest of public safety."
Roar coach Frans Thijssen is yet to nominate his squad for the ACL but will have to choose which three of his five foreign players - Thomas Broich, Jerome Polenz, Henrique, Jean Carlos Solorzano and Andrija Kaluderovic - to include.
Melbourne Victory, meanwhile, is not scheduled to be in action until its A-League Round 19 match against Wellington Phoenix at AAMI Park on Sunday 1 March.
