Brisbane Roar won't set temper trap for Berisha

Brisbane Roar will resist any urge to set off Besart Berisha's famously short fuse when he returns to Suncorp Stadium for the first time as a Melbourne Victory player on Friday night.

"If we try to do that and take the focus off our game, then I promise you we will lose," marquee man Thomas Broich said.

"We've never been that sort of team and we're certainly not going to provoke Bessy."

How Berisha is received as an opposition player by the fans who cheered him on through three productive seasons for Roar looms as an intriguing subplot to an already fascinating contest - one that will further clarify the A-League's top six race.

Broich conceded that Berisha, who has scored nine goals for Victory in 16 appearances, will 'never be just another player' to Brisbane, but said the hype surrounding his transfer to the Melbourne club is no more.

"He'll always have a special place in our hearts," he said.

"But tomorrow night ... we need to focus on him as a player and not a former Brisbane Roar player.

"It feels more like a normal game against a very good opposition."

Goalkeeper Michael Theo, who won two championships with Victory, said Roar couldn't afford to focus too much on Berisha given the other dangers in its opposition's fluid and in-form final third.

"They've got their front four players that sort of intertwine, different positions," Theo said.

"They're playing very well and obviously scoring a lot of goals."

Roar has won the last three games on the trot and will be looking to take that momentum through Wednesday night for its first AFC Champions League clash against Beijing Guoan on the Gold Coast.

New striker Andrija Kaluderovic is set to start up front in place of the injured Jean Carlos Solorzano, while it's anticipated defender Luke DeVere could make his first appearance in his second Brisbane stint off the bench.

"He's (Kaluderovic) got a goal under his belt already so he should be confident. You can see, he's got quality," Broich said.

"He's got a very sharp turn, he's a clinical finisher."

Broich said he felt like Roar was approaching its best form once again.

"It's not just the results - you look at our structure now, our brand of football has many, many promising signs," he said.
