The 28-year-old Newcastle product says he has enjoyed a successful time with the Reds but is looking forward to returning to Newcastle.

"I have enjoyed some great times at Adelaide United and with the best part of half a season left I hope to be part of some more great moments at the club before I leave," Boogaard said.

"But its also a proud moment for me to be able to say that I am coming home to play for my hometown club."

Meanwhile, former Jets captain Kew Jaliens looks set to sign with Melbourne City after agreeing to a mutual termination with the club on Monday.

The ex-Dutch international was one of five senior players including David Carney, Joel Griffiths, Billy Celeski and Adrian Madaschi, who were all sacked by the club last month.

The cuts occurred the same day three coaching staff - assistant Clayton Zane, goalkeeping coach Neil Young and strength and conditioning coach Andrew Packer - were also dumped.

Jaliens was among those refusing to sign termination papers until their owed superannuation was paid by the cash-strapped club owned by Nathan Tinkler.

But the Jets confirmed on Monday they had parted ways, effective immediately, with speculation Jaliens was to sign with A-League rival City.

The Jets on Monday issued a statement in which the club's new chief executive officer Mitchell Murphy, who was appointed to replace Robbie Middleby earlier this month, said he has met with the players union, Professional Footballers Australia (PFA), and was committed to resolving the issues.

"I had open and forthright discussions with the PFA today regarding a range of matters and the club is committed to amicably resolving the current situation," he said.

"The fact that I met with the PFA within the first two hours of being in the office sends a clear message that we want to work towards an outcome, and Kew's decision is proof of that."

Jaliens said he would leave with fond memories of the club.

"Overall its been largely positive in Newcastle," he said.

"I move on to a new adventure, but Newcastle will always be in my heart and my family's heart."
