Kilkenny out to sink Manchester United again

Preston North End midfielder Neil Kilkenny knows just what it takes to beat Manchester United in the FA Cup and he will tap into that experience in the fifth-round showdown between the two clubs at Deepdale next week.

The 29-year-old was part of the Preston side which set up the lucrative tie with Louis van Gaal's men by beating Sheffield United 3-1 in its fourth-round replay at Bramall Lane in midweek.

It gives the Australia international the chance to spring a second surprise against the Red Devils after he was involved in then League One Leeds United's shock win at Old Trafford in 2010. On that occasion current Preston boss Simon Grayson masterminded a first FA Cup third-round defeat to lower league opposition for Sir Alex Ferguson.

Kilkenny insists that his Leeds team played without fear that day and he knows his current club will have to adopt a similar attitude.

"We went there and no one really expected much," he said. "We were confident going into the game, with the same manager we have got here.

"He let us play and we went out there and showed what we could do.

"We took 8,000 fans and it was a fantastic day.

"We knew we had a good team at the time. We went into the game in very good form and we knew we could go in with confidence and no fear.

"No one outside the club was expecting anything, but we believed in ourselves and passed the ball well.

"It was a massive upset and hopefully we can do it again this time.

"Hopefully we show no fear. No one will be expecting much from us, but we know we have got a good team so we are all looking forward to it.

"Deepdale will be full and we will all be looking forward to it. Hopefully we can play with no fear like we did against Sheffield United."
