Koreans confident of blocking Socceroos threats

Korea Republic striker Lee Jeong-hyeop struck the blow that shocked Australia during their group clash of the AFC Asian Cup in Brisbane and he is looking to do it again in the final.

Lee is confident his Taeguk Warriors can contain the Socceroos, blunt their aerial threat and defeat the host to spoil Australia's coming out party in Asian football just like it did in Brisbane.

In that game Korea was without some key players due to injury and sickness, while Socceroos boss Ange Postecoglou was without skipper Mile Jedinak and also started attacking dynamos Tim Cahill and Robbie Kruse from the bench.

Postecoglou's side lacked punch and was dominated early on, it won't be so this time with all three expected to start as well as the physical Mark Milligan.

Lee admitted the Socceroos appeared to be a better side with Milligan and especially Jedinak included, but still thought Korea could counter their impact.

"I watched the game last night and I can see that he (Jedinak) is making a lot of chances in his role, but we also have a lot of good players who can deal with him and the threat he provides," Lee said.

The threat Jedinak brings may be secondary to the aerial prowess of the likes of Cahill, Milligan and defender Trent Sainsbury, who found the net with a lovely headed goal against the United Arab Emirates.

Korea has not conceded in this tournament but it is far from convincing at dealing with set pieces and traditionally is not strong in the air.

But Lee is confident his team can deal with the threat of the Socceroos' high flyers.

"I saw that Australia scored a good goal from the set piece but we also have good defenders to deal with this threat," Lee said.

The 23-year-old Lee will provide his own threat for the Socceroos.

Considered a shock inclusion by many in the Taeguk Warriors squad for the Asian Cup tournament, he has kept his good form going, scoring the opening goal in Korea's semi-final defeat of Iraq.

He is in every way a man in form and is vital to Korea Republic claiming its third Asian Cup title and first since 1960.

That long spell between titles is only driving the Taeguk Warriors according to Lee.

"It is my first goal to win the cup now that we have made it all the way to the final, "Lee said.

"I don't think there is any particular point we need to go through to win the match, but I believe the team that has he better mentality will win."
