Manchester United has claimed a record 63,000 season ticket sales on the eve of its opening home Premier League encounter with Chelsea.

The figure is made up of 55,000 actual season tickets, as many as the club makes available, plus an additional 8,000 hospitality packages.

It means United will once again play to packed houses at Old Trafford this term,
David Moyes's first as Sir
Alex Ferguson's successor.

"This is the strongest pre-season ticket sales performance ever by a British sports team," said group managing director
Richard Arnold.

"It's a fantastic way to welcome
David Moyes into his first league game in front of the United faithful."
