The Spaniard, winner of 11 grand slam titles including seven French Opens, has recently returned from a long-term knee problem - followed by illness - and won two titles including the prestigious Indian Wells Masters in California.

Mavuba has been absent since 15 January with a knee injury of his own and told L'Equipe: "It helps me a lot to look at other sportspeople, that helps me keep it in perspective.

"There is a sportsman I really like, Nadal. I have kept an eye on how his return is going.

"Seeing what he went through, there is no reason why I cannot get back to my best. That certainly inspires me."
