The 28-year-old Socceroos player will train with the Tehran-based team for three days under the supervision of head coach Manuel Jose.

'It’s the first team I’ve come to Iran. I’ve heard that Persepolis is a popular team and I hope that I can show my best for the team," Carney said.

'I know Persepolis is a big team with so many fans. I like to play in front of a 100,000 fans at the Azadi Stadium."

Carney has made 46 appearances for Australia and scored six goals.

He has played for Sydney FC, Twente, Blackpool and Bunyodkor.

Manuel Jose has refused to sign former Ghana captain Stephen Appiah due to health reasons.
