Erik Lamela scored twice as six-time champion Argentina defeated Egypt 2-1 to advance to the quarter-finals of the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

The Roma playmaker opened the scoring with a penalty in the 42nd minute and doubled the lead with another penalty in the 64th. Midfielder Carlos Luque had been fouled inside the area both times.

Egypt's only goal also came from the penalty spot. Striker Mohamed Salah scored in the 70th after midfielder Saleh Gomaa was shoved by an Argentine defender.

Argentina, trying to win its seventh world title, will play Portugal in the quarter-finals - it defeated Guatemala 1-0 in Cali.
