Mapeza suspended over match-fixing

8 February 2012-AP

The Zimbabwe Football Association has suspended national coach Norman Mapeza in the match-fixing scandal that has already implicated more than 80 players and led to corruption charges against the federation's former chief executive.

ZIFA said on Tuesday Mapeza's assistant coach Joey Antipas was also suspended.

Rahman Gumbo was appointed interim coach while ex-Zimbabwe international and Coventry City forward Peter Ndlovu was one of two new assistant coaches.

ZIFA chief executive Jonathan Mashingaidze said the board had decided 'to suspend everyone involved in the match-fixing scandal' and Mapeza and Antipas had to step down until they were cleared.

In a 2011 report, ZIFA said Antipas had admitted in sworn statements to taking money to lose games.
