Victory, Sydney lead All-Stars

The All-Star Team includes players from A-League teams Adelaide United, Central Coast Mariners, Gold Coast United, Wellington Phoenix, Melbourne and Sydney and is headed by Victory coach Ernie Merrick.

Notable absentees are North Queensland's Robbie Fowler, Newcastle midfielder Matt Thompson and Brisbane Roar winger Tommy Oar.

With thousands of votes tallied on the A-League website, this team represents players who have shone above the rest and have earned themselves a place in the All-Star Team thanks ot the fans’ votes.

In a 4-3-3 model the All-Star Team comprises Adelaide custodian Eugene Galekovic, a back four of Phoenix’s Andrew Durante, Sydney’s Simon Colosimo, Melbourne’s Kevin Muscat and Mariners’ Dean Heffernan.

The midfield three comprises Gold Coast’s Jason Culina, Sydney retiree Steve Corica, who was also handed the captaincy, and Johnny Warren Medallist Carlos Hernandez of Melbourne.

Rounding out the team is the attacking trio of Sydney’s Alex Brosque, Melbourne’s Archie Thompson and Gold Coast's league top scorer Shane Smeltz.
