Smith warns of Roar backlash

Adelaide heads to Suncorp Stadium on Sunday boosted by news that gun striker Jeronimo Neumann has been cleared to play but Smith is tipping a tough afternoon for the visitor after Roar's disappointing and embarrassing 1-0 loss to the previously-winless Wanderers.

Western Sydney forced Brisbane out of its comfort zone and upset its rhythm at the weekend but, more importantly, it restricted the damage of stars Thomas Broich and Besart Berisha who, by their standards, had quiet games.

The defeat was reported by some as the biggest upset in A-League history and had Smith suggesting on Tuesday both Broich and Berisha would be extremely keen to erase memories of the loss with big performances against Adelaide.

"We've got a good winning culture at the club and, sometimes, it's very hard to swallow a result like that," said Smith.

"We'll be more than fired up for the weekend and I'm expecting all the boys to stand up and be counted."

Smith said Brisbane had been guilty of too many transition turnovers from ill-directed passes which missed their mark or went out of play.

"There were certainly a lot of times when the passes were certainly on but, unfortunately, the execution didn't stick," he said.

He said the players had opened up about the loss at the team's recovery session the next day.

"We always speak about a game, whether we win, lose or draw, and we were all pretty disappointed the next day.

"If you look at the stats, we still tried to play our football, tried to implement our structures and we still dominated possession.

"We just didn't have an end product which is the difference.

"We pride ourselves on being able to keep possession but, unfortunately, we didn't do that very well.

"When you have high transition, you work harder at trying to get the ball back and maybe we fatigued quicker."

Before the loss to Western Sydney, Brisbane had dropped only three of its previous 34 games at Suncorp Stadium.

Another loss on Sunday would drop Brisbane to near the bottom of the A-League ladder under rookie coach Rado Vidosic who has to find some answers this week.
