Popovic not worried about Wanderers' attack

Western Sydney Wanderers coach Tony Popovic is adamant goals will come and results will follow if his side stays patient in its inaugural A-League season.

The competition's newest club has made a respectable start with a draw and two one-goal losses but remains without a single goal after its 1-0 defeat to cross-town rival Sydney FC.

The Wanderers are closing in on an unenviable record for the slowest attacking start to a season and will match Central Coast's 2006/07 opening goal-less streak of four games if it fails to score away to Brisbane Roar next Saturday.

But Popovic is not hitting the panic button or forecasting any dramatic changes, convinced his side is on track in the way its playing.

"We're getting in the right areas, we're getting in behind teams," Popovic said.

"It's just that final ball or something falling for us in the box.

"If we're not getting in the right areas in the final third I'd be very concerned but we are.

"Obviously we need something to fall for us in that department."

While the jury is still out on the effectiveness of Western Sydney's striker Dino Kresinger and a supporting cast including Mark Bridge and Labinot Haliti, there has been plenty of good signs in midfield.

Midfielder Aaron Mooy has been its best, offering creativity and positivity, while marquee signing Shinji Ono appears to be improving with every match.

Popovic admitted he was disappointed not to have delivered a better result for the Wanderers' growing fan base in the first Sydney derby, but felt the supporters had also been encouraged by what they'd seen.

"I think they're with us for this journey," Popovic said.

"We're all together in this and I think they can see the team is performing well, the team's giving them everything they've got and we just need that little break in that final third.

"It will come, I've got no doubt about that.

"If the performances keep going well we will get that end result that we deserve."
