Beauchamp pleased with opener

The competition's newest franchise had only five months to build a team from scratch but it looked a seasoned unit in the club's debut, a scoreless draw with last season's Premiers' Plate winner Central Coast Mariners at Parramatta Stadium on Saturday night.

Most predicted a baptism of fire but Popovic's team held up under pressure and it didn't come as a surprise to Beauchamp.

"The boss (Popovic) has put together a team where every player has fitted what he wanted and that's really helped us to gel the way we have. The players in the squad compliment each other so well," he said.

"It's been great here from day one and things are just getting better and better everyday with the club.

"We were a little bit disappointed (with the draw) because it would have been nice to get the three points.

"But overall I think to get the club up and running and go out there and a put a performance on and get the crowd (10,458) there as well on what wasn't the best night was a great achievement by the club."

Beauchamp said the squad was looking forward to its next challenge against Adelaide United at Hindmarsh Stadium on Friday night.

The Reds dispatched Newcastle Jets 2-0 at Hunter Stadium on Sunday with goals from Dario Vidosic and Iain Ramsey.

The impressive victory came just four days after Adelaide's Asian Champions League extra-time quarter-final loss to Bunyodkor in Uzbekistan.

"They have come into this season in very good order because they've continued to play together," Beauchamp said.

"That extra game time going into the season has helped them.

"It's going to be a tough match but we're going to work as hard as we can to go out there and get the three points.

"It's a great challenge for us and that's what you want. You want to be tested each week.

"Those boys are very dangerous. Vidosic scored a great goal in the second minute. It's a tough challenge but that's what football is and we're definitely up for it."

One of the highlights of Western Sydney's opening game for Beauchamp was the exciting cameo from Japan star Shinji Ono, who came on in the second half and produce some nice touches.

"He's a class player. That was his first game after only being here for a week too. He's only going to get better," he said.

"I'm really looking forward to seeing the best of him in the coming weeks for sure and he's a player the boys are to going feed off his talent.

"He's going to be great for this team."
