Newcastle Jets defeated Central Coast Mariners 2-1 in a pre-season encounter played behind closed doors in Tuggerah on Wednesday afternoon.
The Jets led by two goals at the break before the Mariners replied after the interval.
Attacking midfielder Bernardo Ribeiro scored his first goal for Newcastle on 13 minutes, with the Brazilian making the most of some fine lead-up play.
Teenager Mitch Cooper doubled the lead with a finish into the bottom corner after an assist from veteran forward Michael Bridges five minutes before half-time.
Both sides gave a number of their National Youth League trialists a run in the second half.
Central Coast reduced the deficit on 74 minutes with Aaron Peterson getting on the scoresheet after a mistake in the Jets defence.
