Star Italian Sydney FC recruit Alessandro Del Piero said he welcomes the intense pressure that comes with being the biggest signing in Australian football history.
World Cup winner Del Piero gave an assured and charming performance in his first media conference in Australia on Monday as he answered questions in both English and Italian.
While getting to know his new teammates was his immediate priority, 37-year-old Del Piero didn't have any qualms about the level of expectation his reported $2 million a season deal brought with it.
"I know there's a lot of expectation, and I love that," Del Piero said.
"I played 19 years with Juventus - and in Juventus you have to win every game, every year.
"Fortunately a lot of the time that happened - but all my life I play for winning.
"I'm here for winning. I'm here because I trust in the win."
Del Piero said he welcomed being the new face of the A-League, but that his focus was very much on performing for the Sky Blues.
"First of all I am here for Sydney FC, competing for Sydney FC," he said.
"Then we hope, about the A-League growing up - day by day and this is hard work."
