Newcastle edges out Brisbane

Newcastle Jets managed to overcome an attacking Brisbane Roar, sealing a 1-0 win in its pre-season friendly at Tamworth's Scully Park.

Although both teams showed promising signs for the season ahead, Roar was unable to capitalise on opportunities during the match.

Newcastle took the lead in the 20th minute through Ryan Griffiths in what was an evenly-matched contest.

Japan defender and new signing Yuji Takahashi made his debut for Roar in the 70th minute of the match.
