Yau aims to change Sydney's fortunes

Panama international Yau has been in Australia for less than four days, taking in tourist spots Darling Harbour and the Opera House, as well as training for the first time with the Sky Blues.

Even though Yau is living out of a hotel room, he says he already feels at home.

"It feels like I've always been here. I feel very comfortable," Yau said, speaking through a Spanish translator.

International recruits, especially strikers, have generally needed time to find their feet in the A-League.

But the man on a one-year loan from Sporting San Miguelito, who had only seen snippets of A-League footage on the internet prior to shifting to the other side of the world, was confident he could make an instantaneous impact.

"I feel I can change the game here, score goals and help the team to get the championship," he said.

"I can make a difference in the speed of the game.

"I'm very dynamic, can play the killer pass as well and I want to score goals."

Sydney FC coach Ian Crook hoped Yau could be his side's x-factor, with the first-year coach deploying his latest recruit as an attacker on the right side during training.

"He's got pace, which is something that we felt we desperately needed in that front third," Crook said.

"I think he'll be exciting. Obviously everyone takes a while to settle in, and certainly day one, I think the good thing has been both Nicky Carle and Fabio have been able to converse with him.

"Hopefully all the boys will make him settle in quickly.

"When you come into something for the first time, a different country, different language, different way of playing, it takes a while. All players have that. He'll be no different."

Yau admitted his fleeting moments on the pitch with Sydney FC had proven a good deal different to prior experience.

"It's very, very tactical. Which will help my game.

"I've found it very tactical. The key is possession."

Yau could be a central figure for his new side when it battles Western Sydney Wanderers on October 20.

The marksman admitted the inaugural Sydney derby was yet to come up in his discussions with Carle and other team-mates.

"Nothing yet, give it time."
