Victory deal with Football Federation Tasmania

25 July 2012-AAP

It might have lost Harry Kewell, but A-League club Melbourne Victory has gained Tasmania as compensation.

A new Tasmanian state-wide competition kicking off next year will be known as the Victory League after the Melbourne club agreed to be its naming rights sponsor.

The deal is part of a three-year partnership with Football Federation Tasmania which will also mean Victory undertakes an annual pre-season tour and talented young Tasmanian players feed into the club's youth system.

"This is a fantastic opportunity to grow, not only the game itself, but also the Victory brand in a rapidly-developing sporting landscape," Melbourne managing director Richard Wilson said in a statement.

Melbourne already plays an A-League match in Launceston each season and will meet Central Coast Mariners at Aurora Stadium on January 12.

It will play trials against a Tasmanian XI in Hobart on 21 August and against Adelaide United in Launceston on 24 August.
