Young Socceroos defender Curtis Good is poised to join English Premier League side Newcastle United, pending a medical.

Melbourne Heart announced Good will travel to England on Wednesday night and barring any mishaps with the physical examination will pen a deal with the Magpies.

"It's a fantastic opportunity for Curtis. Newcastle United is one of the biggest clubs in the United Kingdom, and we are absolutely delighted he has the opportunity to test his wares on such a stage," Heart coach John Aloisi said.

"While Curtis will certainly be missed, his proposed transfer is a great affirmation of our youth policy, and a demonstration of the club's ability to assist in developing players to such an extent that they’re able to move to one of Europe’s leading competitions.

"We wish Curtis well and hope he will one day return to don the red and white stripes of our club."

Good joined Heart from the Australian Institute of Sport in February 2011 and made a total of 25 appearances in his debut A-League season.

His performances helped Heart reach the Finals Series for the first time in season 2011-2012.

Heart CEO Scott Munn said Good's journey was another sign that the club is headed in the right direction.

"When we formed this club, it was always our goal to nurture a young talent and take him to one of the biggest clubs, in one of the biggest leagues in the world," Munn said.

"To be on the verge of having achieved this ambition within two years is a substantial achievement and one which we hope to be replicated many times again in the future."

In recent weeks, Heart has sold teenage youth internationals Eli Babalj (Red Star Belgrade) and Brendan Hamill (Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma) as its re-builds its squad under Aloisi.
