Stepping up ... Brisbane Roar goalkeeper Matt Acton (Supplied)
Brisbane Roar has promoted goalkeeper Matt Acton from the club's youth set-up into its A-League squad.
Acton, 20, has signed a two-year deal with Roar and will act as back-up to Michael Theoklitos after former number two Andrew Redmayne left for Melbourne Heart.
"I moved down expecting to play QAS (Queensland Academy of Sport) for a couple of years and then maybe Brisbane Premier League," said Townsville-born Acton.
"To be given this opportunity is just amazing - I never imagined being in an A-League team or being a professional footballer so I'm loving it."
Acton was a part of the inaugural Queensland Roar National Youth League side - then coached by Rado Vidosic - and says he is not fazed by the step-up to the senior ranks.
"It's not too much different because I've been training with the first team for a few years now," he said.
"I suppose it's just more responsibility because I'm the second choice keeper and if something happened to Theo, I'll have to step in now.
"Before, I would be a part of it but wasn't involved on game day so it'll much of the same for me but more responsibility."
