No homecoming... Chipperfield has spent over a decade in Switzerland (Getty)
Australian veteran Scott Chipperfield won't be headed to the A-League after announcing he will remain in Switzerland and play amateur football next season.
The 36-year-old had previously declared that he would be returning to Wollongong next month to play in the Illawarra Premier League season with Tarrawanna, where he had signed a short-term contract.
Expectations were that he would then play out his career in the A-League with the recently launched Western Sydney Wanderers.
But for family reasons Chipperfield, who retired from the Socceroos after the 2010 World Cup, will continue to play his football abroad.
"‘No A League for me. Asked the boys if I can go back to Oz & they said no:). Stay in Swiss & play amateur league & look for a job:)," Chipperfield posted on Facebook.
When asked by a Facebook friend if that meant he would not be linking up with Tarrawanna , Chipperfield responded ‘"Nah not now. Was looking forward to playing a couple of games. Especially against Dandy:). Yeh kids r happy."
