Timing ... Sydney FC is set for a needed boost with the return of Brett Emerton (Getty)
Sydney FC have received a much-needed boost with marquee player Brett Emerton cleared to make his A-League return from injury against Perth Glory at the Sydney Football Stadium on Saturday night.
Emerton missed his side's embarrassing 5-2 thumping at the hands of Newcastle Jets on Sunday with a hamstring injury.
The former Blackburn Rovers midfielder has battled a hamstring strain this season and suffered a recurrence of the problem in the 2-2 draw against Melbourne Victory on Australia Day.
Sydney FC will have to do battle without captain Terry McFlynn, who misses the match through suspension, leaving the door open for youngsters Mitchell Mallia and Joel Chianese, who made an impressive A-League debut off the bench against Newcastle.
Sydney dropped out of the top six for the first time this season as Newcastle took sixth spot.
It happened just two days after the club announced coach Vitezslav Lavicka would be leaving at the end of the season.
