Triple treat for Glory

Perth Glory's chances of defeating Wellington Phoenix at nib Stadium on Sunday have received a triple boost, with key A-League players Jamie Harnwell, Mile Sterjovski and Andy Todd all set to return from injury.

Harnwell (calf) and Sterjovski (ankle) trained strongly this week after recovering quicker than expected from injuries picked up against Newcastle Jets two weeks ago.

Todd was ruled out of the opening three rounds after undergoing pre-season knee surgery and was left further frustrated when a bout of illness forced him to withdraw from last week's 2-2 draw with Melbourne Heart.

Glory coach Dave Mitchell was confident all three would feature against Phoenix in some capacity.

"All three of them are available and there's a good chance they'll all be included," Mitchell said on Friday.

"It's a credit to the medical staff here. They got them back really quickly. It's great to have them back.

"There'll be a couple of players probably unhappy (to miss out on selection) and that's the beauty of having a good squad.

"But again ... some players have come in and performed well so it's a good situation to be in.

"The players that have come back are probably not 100 percent fit, as in match fitness.

"Andy Todd's certainly not.

"So it's a situation where you just have to monitor him and again tomorrow we'll have a look at him again to see if he can start and if not he might be on the bench."

Phoenix, a supreme force at home, has lost its past three matches in Perth but coach Ricki Herbert said the travelling factor should be no excuse.

"I've said to the players it's about performing," Herbert said.

"It's not about saying 'oh, we're away again'. We're not in that headspace at all. I think the travel is irrelevant."

Mitchell implored his players to make the most of their home ground advantage.

"They're like us, they have problems when they travel as well," Mitchell said of Phoenix, which knocked Perth out of the finals last season.

"I think they came (to Perth) yesterday (Thursday) so they came early this week to prepare properly.

"They're a good side but we're playing at home and we'll have a go at them.

"Ricki's a good coach and he'll come back at us as well."

New Phoenix signing Nick Ward is expected to start on the bench, while Troy Hearfield is likely to come in at right-back for Manny Muscat (international duty).

Glory will be without striker Michael Baird, whose two-match ban for diving has caused plenty of controversy.

"It's unfortunate what's happened but we are just trying to put it behind us," Mitchell said.
