The official ball for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil will be called the 'Brazuca', after the name received the nod of approval from Brazilian fans.
FIFA, the Local Organising Committee and adidas, match ball supplier since 1970, confirmed the name after 70 per cent of more than one million people voted for it.
The other two options in a three-name shortlist were Bossa Nova and Carnavalesca.
"I'm delighted that Brazilian football fans have had the opportunity to play their part in deciding the name of one of the event’s most important symbols," FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke said.
"I'm sure that the Brazuca ball will go down in history together with other iconic FIFA World Cup balls, such as the Tango in Argentina in 1978 and the Azteca in Mexico in 1986."
The informal term 'brazuca' is used by Brazilians to describe national pride in the Brazilian way of life.
There is no official launch date of the actual ball itself, which is currently being developed.
